Renovations

Thinking about renovating or making improvements?

Unit Owners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the interior components of their units, and the Association is responsible for the maintenance and repair of unit exteriors (except windows, entry doors, and skylights).

Therefore, any interior improvement that is reasonably termed as cosmetic in nature (new paint, flooring, changing of existing fixtures, cabinets, counter tops, etc.) is up to the unit owner’s discretion.

However – because condos have shared walls, roofs and waste systems with adjoining units – any interior renovations that could potentially compromise the health, safety, and value of adjoining units need to be approved by the Association.

IN BRIEF, If your plans include cutting into drywall or studs, moving electrical or plumbing lines, replacing windows or exterior doors, or changing landscaping or plantings outside, you will need approval first.

If your renovation plans include any of the following items,  check to see if you need to fill out and submit an Architectural Change Request (ACR) form. Some improvements may also require city permits.*
